Rag Rugs Woven as You Watch
Our dedicated volunteers operate one of the biggest "recycling" centers on the
Gogebic Range. Old fabric is transformed into rag rugs. The volunteer weavers
use looms - one more than a century old - to craft rugs of varying lengths,
which you may purchase. Your purchases support the work of the museum as
we receive no county, state or federal taxpayer dollars to operate this large
museum in Wisconsin's north woods.
Three Floors of Displays
The basement, first floor and second floor are filled with displays focusing on
the region's history. From mining and lumbering to home-life and veterans,
we're dedicated to preserving and sharing the rich history of Iron County,
Wisconsin. Our research area includes microfilms of all newspapers published
in the county dating back to the nineteenth century.
